Experimental exploration of digitally fabricated connections for structural concrete

چکیده

Connections are a persistent challenge for traditional reinforced concrete construction and even more digital fabrication with (DFC). The latter, on the other hand, opens up new possibilities producing connections tailored geometries surface roughness. Based findings of an exploratory, experimental campaign, this paper discusses design, structural testing digitally fabricated joints using DFC technology Eggshell to 3D print formwork joint surfaces in additive manufacturing process. programme includes (i) unreinforced whose texture was varied control roughness (ii) dry keyed varying geometry. Both, as well joints, were produced set-on-demand relatively small maximum aggregate size 0 4 mm – i.e., strictly speaking, mortar rather than typically applied DFC. campaign included thorough instrumentation: scan before high-resolution image correlation (DIC) combined distributed fibre optical sensing (DFOS) during testing. deviations from targeted geometry, determined scans, below 2 mm, standard deviation between 0.4 0.7 joints. DIC allowed measuring compressive strains locally at corrugation or key chamfer and, hence, studying strain variations over height efficiency different keys dimensions. Finally, shear transfer capacity, evaluated push-off test setup, showed that all met outperformed requirements defined pertinent design codes despite smaller size.

Seismic Design Considerations for Precast Concrete Shear Wall Connections

The performance of precast shear wall panel structures subjected to earthquakes relies on the behaviour and integrity of the connections between the panels. The current lack of knowledge on the seismic behaviour of precast wall connections limits the use of such systems in earthquake areas. This paper presents results of an extensive experimental program undertaken at the University of Manitoba...

Connections for Precast Concrete Load-bearing Shear Wall Panels

Precast load-bearing shear wall panels are used extensively for high-rise construction because of the ease and speed of assembly, and the high quality of the precast panels. The connections between panels are extremely important since they affect both the speed of erection '~md the overall integrity of the structure. This paper presents the results of a four-year research program conducted to i...

Experimental Exploration of Metal Cable as Reinforcement in 3D Printed Concrete

The Material Deposition Method (MDM) is enjoying increasing attention as an additive method to create concrete mortar structures characterised by a high degree of form-freedom, a lack of geometrical repetition, and automated construction. Several small-scale structures have been realised around the world, or are under preparation. However, the nature of this construction method is unsuitable fo...

Exploration of Set-based Design for Reinforced Concrete Structures

To explore the feasibility of improving the delivery process of reinforced concrete, we focus in this paper on reinforcing bars (rebar) used in cast-in-place (CIP) concrete. Specifically, we describe the methodology for set-based design of rebar that we are pursuing in an ongoing research effort. Set-based design makes it possible to maintain feasible solutions for longer in the design process ...
